Athlete Tattoo of the Day: Michelle Jenneke

(12/16/12 Update:  A recent photo shoot and interview revealed Michelle’s Australian Flag tattoo to be a temporary one that she just applies for competitions.  We hope she will eventually get some real body art, but we will still with her on ‘New 2 Tats’ anyway)

Michelle Jenneke is a superstar in the making.  She is a pretty accomplished hurdler at the Junior championships level (she won a silver medal in the 100 meter hurdles at the 2010 Junior Olympics).  However, it’s not her hurdling, but rather her warmup routine, that really has the 19-year old Aussie capturing the world’s attention.

In preparation for an early heat in the 100 meter hurdles and the 2012 World Junior Championships in Barcelona, she did did a very animated, bouncy, playful warmup routine before the race.  A video of dance has become a huge viral hit.  You can see the video here:

One thing that her warmup routine revealed was her passion for her country as you could see a very prominent Australian flag tattoo above her right hip.  Hers is particularly cute.  Here is a gallery of Michelle’s tattoo below:

Flag tattoos are among the best first-time tattoos to get.  They are not particular difficult to design and they reflect a part of you that will never change, whether it is your home country or your family’s heritage (I know, because my first tattoo was a combination of the Irish and Scottish flags to reflect my heritage on both sides of my family).

It looks like she’s building towards being an Olympic-caliber hurdler, and we may see her in 2016 Games in Rio.  However, her playfully sexy and fun-loving attitude will ensure she is well-known before then.
