Celebrity Tattoo of the Day (Browncoats Edition): Miriam Pultro

(Update:  Miriam loved this feature and shared her brand new tattoo)

(Update 06/23:  I found a pictures that clearly shows the saying on Miriam’s shoulder)

As regular readers of “New 2 Tats” have probably already realized during their many visits, I generally like to feature athletes or celebrities who are not well known (or who are famous, but not known for their body art).  A recent need to fill my “Firefly” void brought the pretty Miriam Pultro to my attention.

In 2010, a group of acting unknowns (and fervent “Firefly” fans) came together to put fan fiction on film with the release of “Browncoats: Redemption”.  Though not focusing on the tale of the crew of Serenity (other than a “blink and you’ll miss it” cameo by Jayne himself, Adam Baldwin), “Browncoats: Redemption” takes in the same ‘verse, aboard a similar ship called Redemption, in the days and months following the devastating news about the planet Miranda, the core of 2005’s “Serenity”.

“Browncoats: Redemption” made over $100,000 for charity and introduced this spunky Philadelphia actress to wider audience.  With a look that combines the best features of Jessica Szohr (Vanessa, from “Gossip Girl”) and Lauren Cohan (Maggie, from “The Walking Dead”), Miriam has been steadily building her acting resume with edgy (and, by her own admission, dark) characters.

In a film/television career that is just about three years old, Miriam as been paying her dues with a run of independent television and web series.  She began with the film “Laundromat” in 2010 and is recently starred on the television series “Casters”.

Currently, Miriam has made a splash on the hit web series, “Mythos”.  Beyond being popular, “Mythos” is also an award winner.  The website ‘We Love Soaps’, a champion of independent web and tv productions, held their 4th annual Independent Soap Awards (ISA4) just this week, on February 19th.  Miriam won the award for Best Lead Actress Her co-star, Adam Henry Garcia, won for Best Supporting Actor.  Not too shabby for a series she wrote, directed and produced all on her own!  (The picture below shows her on her big night)

Of course, while I love to promote independent media, what brings Miriam Pultro to the pages of “New 2 Tats” is, naturally, the ink.  When I first saw her on “Browncoats: Redemption”, I noticed a design on the upper part of her inner left forearm.  A closer look reveals what appears to be Hebrew inscription (I’m told it says ‘hashem’, which is the Hebrew reference for God or, more literally, ‘the name’, as his real name is not supposed to be spoken [it’s helpful to have friends who are “Firefly” fans and Jewish, to provide this little nugget of information :-)).

On Miriam’s left shoulder, there is another inscription that says “I Am Enough”

A little clearer to read is the quote she has tattoo’d on her right bicep, which reads “To love at all is to be vulnerable”.

The final one I was able to find was a fun and flirty cluster of stars near her right hip.

MPultro_Tat03   And, here is Miriam’s 5th tattoo, inked just a week ago.  It’s the Triskelion, a beautiful Celtic symbol representing the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost in Christianity; as well as a secular meaning of Spirit, Mind, and Body).  This is a wonderful design (one I will be getting for myself soon), and it looks great on Miriam.   MPultro_Tat05

Miriam is working hard and making moves.  I have no doubt that we will be seeing more roles from her in the near future (and, hopefully, more ink :-)).
