Olympians, and their love of body art, make running this blog very easy and very entertaining. Since most Olympians are proud of their bodies, they are also proud of the ink they choose to adorn them with.
French swimmer, Laure Manaudou, is just such an Olympic Champion who loves tattoos. Born in Villeurbanne, France, Laure has grown up in the water and has found winning gold medals to be a family affair.
Laure has participated in three Olympic Games, beginning with Athens in 2004. Just shy of 18 years old, at the time, Laure secured three medals (one of each kind) in Greece, among them a Gold Medal with Women’s 400m Freestyle. Laure followed that success with another Gold Medal in that same race during the 2005 World Championships before having her biggest success with 2007 World Championships, where she pulled down 2 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal (she set a World Record in the 200m freestyle, to boot).
2007 was, essentially, the high-water mark for Laure’s competitive career (no pun intended). While she did win two more Gold Medals at the 2008 European Championships, she never again won a medal at the Olympics. However, she did get to experience the joy of the family Gold Medal affair in the 2012 London Games when her younger brother Florent Manaudou won the Men’s 50m Freestyle event.
It looks as though Laure intends to create another generation of championship swimmers. In 2010, she had a baby girl, named Manon, with her boyfriend, Frederick Bousquet. Bousquet just happens to be a world-class swimmer, himself, having won a Silver Medal in the Men’s 4x100m Freestyle race at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, while practically owning the European Championships.
Laure’s love of tattoos is well documented. She has a couple of quirky ones while also sporting a few beautiful ones. One of Laure’s really quirky ones is a gecko that she has just above her pelvic region:
Another quirky one is her “love” tattoo, inscribed on the inside of her right index finger
Laure shows her love of butterflies with a beautiful little butterfly design on her upper right shoulder.
Laure also has couple designs on her right ankle. They might be Kanji tattoos, but I haven’t been able to get a clear definition of them yet.
Laure also shows off a couple stars on the inside of her right elbow.
Most recently, Laure paid to tribute her young daughter by placing her name “Manon”, in a stylized image, on the top of right shoulder.
