Reality TV has certainly become a staple of the of the network and cable programming cycles. For better or for worse, the low production costs make these types of shows very cost effective to produce. The audience appeal of tabloid-style entertainment also makes these shows very profitable. One of the more popular varieties of reality television are the ‘find true love’ shows, embodied in the “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” series.
One of the more common practices from the “Bachelor/Bachelorette” series is to take one of the more popular contestants who did not ‘win’ one of the shows and make them the main person on the other show. In 2010, that person was Ali Fedotowsky.
Ali, a New England girl who was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts and attended college at Clark University in Worcester, began 2010 on “The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love” as one of the contestants vying for the affections of pilot, Jake Pavelka. Ali made the top 4 out of the original 25 ladies. However, she ended up choosing to leave when faced with an ultimatum from her job to quit the show or be fired.
Whatever obstacles from her job that caused her to leave “The Bachelor” were apparently resolved several months later (her company either retracted their ultimatum or she left them). She returned to be lead in the sixth season of “The Bachelorette”. At the end of the show, she chose suitor Robert Martinez and became engaged. Of course, as with that usually happens with these shows, Ali and Robert ended their relationship a little while later.
Since the conclusion of her reality tv run, Ali has remained in the public eye. She has since become a host on the NBC lifestyle show “1st Look” and became an entertainment correspondent for “E! News”. Ali also was a judge for the 2012 “Miss USA” pageantAli decided to finish 2011 by getting her first tattoo. On her right wrist, she go the word ‘endure’ inscribed in her grandmother’s handwriting. The inspiration is from a sage piece of advice her grandmother gave her: “As through life we experience sunshine and rain… the secret it to endure”.
