Celebrity Tattoo of the Day (Music Video Muse Edition): Emily Ratajkowski

In 2013, Emily Ratajkowski became the new seductive ‘It’ girl in the entertainment industry.  After already demonstrating a high level of comfort with her body, in the form of numerous nude (or near nude) photo shoots, Emily brought that ‘exposure’ to a wider audience in two of the year’s biggest music videos.

The first of these music videos to burn up the airwaves was the controversial and popular “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke, Pharrell and T.I.  The song was enormously popular, as it stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks.  It was controversial because the song, itself, seemed to be too casual about the subject of sexual consent while the video was controversial due to an alternate version that had Emily, and the other female models, cavorting around naked.  Regardless of the controversy, “Blurred Lines” succeeded in not just putting Emily on the radar, but in breaking that radar.  The other big video was her body paint excursion in Maroon 5’s “Love Somebody.”

For all the nuclear-level hotness she brings to her barely-clothed roles and photo shoots, the English-born/California-raised Ratajkowski is actually a former child actress from the Nickelodeon ‘factory’.  She performed in multiple episodes of “iCarly” (along with star Miranda Cosgrove) as Tasha.  However, after finishing that role in 2010, she didn’t act for another 4 years.  This was due to advice from her manager that she keep the number of roles low until she can be more selective in what she chooses to star in.

The end result of that selectivity was that her next acting role was as Ben Affleck’s mistress, Andie, in the critically-acclaimed thriller (and box office hit), “Gone Girl”.  She received good notices for her performance in that film.  She now has two additional films slated for release in 2015.  One is the long-awaited feature film of Vinnie Chase and the boys in “Entourage” (a film that, no doubt, will showcase some of Emily’s ‘body comfort’). The other is “We Are Your Friends” (starring with Zac Efron and Wes Bentley).

It goes without saying that Emily is a much sought after model.  After attending UCLA for one year, she left school in 2009 to go into modeling full time.  She did print work for Forever 21, Kohl’s and Nordstrom.  Her uninhibited nature also got her significant work in swimsuit and lingerie campaigns, not to mention nude and partially clothed magazine shoots.

Emily’s comfort with displaying her body comes from growing up around the nude female form through her father’s work as a visual artist, as well as her following of such well regarding photographers as Herb Ritts and Helmut Newton.  She also frequently visited nude beaches throughout Europe with her mother.  She views the American aversion to nudity as a repressed attitude.  She thinks of herself as a feminist in this manner.

Now, one would think that if a frequently nude model possessed some body art, it would be pretty easy to spot.  Of course, when even Emily forgets that she has a tiny window tattoo of the back of her left calf, it should be a surprise that others overlook it, too.
