Hottie Ink Update (Independent Wine Lover Edition): Miriam Pultro

One of the things I have loved best about running this blog is when I get positive feedback from the person I featured.  It shows me that people do enjoy this blog and continues to affirm how much they genuinely like talking about body art.  One of favorite features was the one I wrote last year on independent actress, Miriam Pultro.

My love of the all-to-brief science fiction epic “Firefly” is what led me to learn about Miriam in the first place.  In 2010, a number of “Firefly” fans paid tribute to this awesome show by creating the fan film “Browncoats: Redemption”.  It raised $100,000 for charity and gave fans another taste of the ‘verse that Serenity flew in.  Miriam’s performance stood out, and her ink caught my attention, leading to the feature on her.

Miriam had a very positive response to her tattoo feature, and even shared what was her newest tattoo at the time, the triskelion on her back.  Her love of ink is one fun aspect about Miriam.  Another is her passion for her craft and drive to succeed in acting.  One only needs to watch her award-winning web series, “Mythos” (catch it here:, to see her talent for writing, storytelling and characterization.  After the success of its first season, Miriam has already produced the show’s second season pilot.

Following Miriam on social media gives you an intimate look at an actress working hard towards that big break.  She candidly chronicles her disappointments along with her successes.  Recently, she scored a spot in the popular ‘Lily Adams’ AT&T commercial series.  She also recently starred in the family comedy/drama, “Homeward”.  In the meantime, you can also learn about her love of wine (which she sure loves 😀 ).  The big break is destined to come for Miriam.  When it does, I’m gonna be that guy that says “Hey, I knew about her way back when…”

Of course, while I like talking about Miriam’s love of wine and her growing resume, this feature exists because she has added more body art to her wonderful collection.

In my original feature on Miriam, she had a cute constellation of stars along her upper hip.  Since then, she has added the phrase that appears to say “One Feeling Only at a Time” underneath (It is a quote from Peter Pan).

Hottie Ink Update (Songstress Edition): Foxes and Ellie Goulding

One of the immutable truths of maintaining a blog about tattoos, is that there will always be new tattoos to showcase on people who have already been featured.  This is also one of the benefits.  In some cases, like Janel Parrish, they have so many tattoos that an initial post could not highlight all of them.  In other cases, like Selena Gomez, new tattoos are added over time and require their own feature.  In this post, singers Foxes and Ellie Goulding are featured with new ink.

Original feature:

Foxes_Pic04    Foxes (Louisa Rose Allen) is the quirky, sexy singer who has been dominating the airwaves (and iPod playlists) in 2013 as the vocalist in “Clarity”, an amazingly passionate song engineered by EDM stalwart Zedd.  She also released an EP, containing haunting tracks like “White Coats”.  In her original “New 2 Tats” feature, we highlighted the only known tattoo Foxes had at the time, a little heart on her right wrist.

Foxes_Tat01    Since then, a new tattoo has been spotted.  On the outside of her left ankle (determined to be the left because it’s a reverse image in a mirror), Foxes has a crescent moon visible.

Keep Twittering Foxes here:

Ellie Goulding

Original feature:

EG_Pic1    If you were to look up ‘adorable’ in the encyclopedia, the first entry you would find would be British singer Ellie Goulding (Ariana Grande would be the second entry).  When she was featured initially, Ellie was already a breakout star with songs like “Starry Eyed” and “Lights”.  At the time, she had a single tattoo, of a red triangle, on her right wrist (triangles being an obsession of hers).

EG_Tat1    Since her first feature, Ellie has continued her occupation of the upper reaches of the Billboard Hot 100 with such popular songs as “I Need Your Love (with Calvin Harris)” and “Burn”.  She has also added a new piece of ink.  It is a white ink tattoo of an arrow on her index finger.  She showed the work being done in the music video for “I Need Your Love”.  (It’s hard to tell if it is on her left or right hand, because the video makes it look like it is being applied to the left, but her Instagram photo makes it look like it’s on the right).

Celebrity Tattoo of the Day (American Idol Champion Edition): Kelly Clarkson

Landmark singing talent competition “American Idol” just completed its 12th season.  Of all 12 of the champions, it can be strongly argued that the first champion, Kelly Clarkson, is still the best (though, effective cases can be made for Carrie Underwood and Phillip Phillips).

KClarkson_Pic09   When Kelly first auditioned for “Idol”, she had a good voice and winning, bubbly personality, but the judges weren’t exactly overwhelmed with her.  Fortunately, they did recognize that there was solid enough talent to send her to the next round and, eventually, make her a finalist.  However, she wasn’t viewed as having much of a chance of winning.  Any betting person would have put their money on Justin Guarini or Tamyra Gray to win.  Indeed, most media coverage of the season was geared that way.

KClarkson_Pic03    Leave it to Kelly to roll off one powerhouse vocal performance after another, showcasing a range from pop to rock to soul.  Through the season, she never once finished in the bottom two (or three), which would have put her at risk for elimination.  Then, she scored a big upset over Guarini in the final.

KClarkson_Pic02    Following Kelly’s “Idol” victory, she launched right into her recording career.  She started by releasing the obligatory Idol Champion single, “A Moment Like This”, a generic song that hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 based on the popularity of the show (a phenomenon that would be repeated with future winners, even those whose music careers never amounted to anything, like Taylor Hicks).  Kelly’s first standalone single, “Miss Independent”, followed and reached #9 on the Hot 100.

During this time period, Kelly also starred in the atrocious musical film “From Justin to Kelly”, starring her and Idol runner-up, Justin Guarini.  Kelly acknowledged that she only performed in this movie because of contractual obligations to Idol producers.

KClarkson_Pic08    Instead of just coasting on one heavily manufactured pop song after another, Kelly assumed greater creative control over her next album, “Breakaway”.  In this album, she was able to blend pop sensibilities with her edgier ‘rocker gurl’ personality.  The true standout on this album, and the song that proved Kelly would be a force to be reckoned with for years to come, was her breakup tune, “Since U Been Gone”.  Her assertive, rock-powered lyrics about an ended relationship showed her true musical self.  Reaching #2 on the Hot 100, it won Kelly her first Grammy Award (she won another for the entire album).

KClarkson_Pic06   “Breakway” had several other hits, like “Walk Away”, “Because Of You”, “Behind these Hazel Eyes”, and the title track (which was also on the soundtrack for “Princess Diaries 2:  Royal Engagement”).  Each of these songs reached at least #12 on the Hot 100.

After a brief hiatus in which she fought with her music label for more control over her musical direction, she released “My December”, a serviceable, yet underwhelming, album that still kept her on the mind of the music-buying public.

KClarkson_Pic04   2009 saw the next step in the evolution of Kelly as artist with here release of standout songs “My Life Would Suck Without You” (which hit #1) and the orchestral “Already Gone”.  This work was quickly followed by her the subsequent album “Stronger”, which continued to showcase her stellar vocal talents, edgy lyrics and incredible staying power.  The first single, “Mr. Know It All”, takes the rumor-mongering press to task, and her title track, “Stronger” (which was her third #1 on the Hot 100), stressed the importance of perseverance.

KClarkson_Pic07    In a true mark of how impressive Kelly’s career has been, she celebrated 10 years in the industry by releasing a “Greatest Hits” album that was legitimately earned (as opposed to the shameless money grabs that some other artists with much less substantial resumes try).  In addition to being a collection of her top songs so far, she also released the breathy and sweet “Catch My Breath”, which was inspired changes in her life, like her upcoming marriage.

KClarkson_Pic01    It’s easy to realize just how big a fan of body art Kelly Clarkson actually is.  She has quite a collection of tattoos that she proudly displays, whether it’s in music videos, on the red carpet or in photo shoots.

One of the first ones that was noticeable on Kelly is a cute sunflower on the outside of her left ankle,

KClarkson_Tat01kclarkson_tat02Kelly was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and is proud to be a Texas girl at heart.  She displays this pride with an outline of the state of Texas near her bikini line.

KClarkson_Tat04    In many of her music videos, the strongly religious Clarkson shows off a simple cross design on her right wrist.  While it initially stood alone, it has been recently been enhanced with the phrase “Love Them More” alongside.

KClarkson_Tat12KClarkson_Tat10KClarkson_Tat13KClarkson_Tat11    Along Kelly’s other wrist is a cute little design that is a balloon the shape of a heart with three ribbons attached to the tail.

KClarkson_Tat07    Kelly has definitely embraced the emerging feminine tattoo trend of cute designs behind the ear.  Behind her right ear, she has crescent moon design and, behind her left ear, she has an intricate snowflake.

KClarkston_Tat14KClarkson_Tat03On the back of her neck, Kelly has a Kanji symbol that means blessed.

KClarkson_Tat08KClarkson_Tat09    In a recent interview in People Magazine (,,20559430,00.html), she points out her thirteenth(!) tattoo (obviously I don’t have photos of all of them), which runs along her left rib cage and reads “what doesn’t kill you” in Morse Code.  She has it placed close to her heart.

KClarkson_Tat05    The final Kelly tattoo featured here is an incredible three-dimensional piece that shows a missing puzzle piece being put back into place on her right shoulder.

Celebrity Tattoo of the Day (Fast and Furious Edition): Elsa Pataky

ElsaP_Pic05    The return of the “The Fast and the Furious” movie series with its newest installment “Fast & Furious 6” brings about the return of the incredibly attractive Spanish actress, Elsa Pataky, who portrays Brazilian police officer (and Dominic Torretto love interest), Elena Neves.  Although her role is a bit smaller than the one from “Fast Five”, she still effectively conveys the same strength and vulnerability of Neves from the earlier film.

ElsaP_Pic02     While the “Fast and Furious” films have been her most notable screen credits, Elsa has been acting on film and TV for over 15 years.  She also happens to be married to ‘Thor’, himself, actor Chris Hemsworth.

The gorgeous Elsa began her acting career in her early 20’s in the Spanish television series “Al salir de clase”.  She decided to leave school to take that role and has not looked back since.  She largely participated in Spanish and international cinema before she first reached U.S. audiences in the hilariously titled, but underwhelming, “Snakes on a Plane”.

Elsa continued her run in foreign films until struck it big in the 2011 blockbuster “Fast Five”.  In that film, she played a Brazilian police officer committed to taking down one of Rio’s most notorious drug cartels, who were responsible for the death of her husband.  She allies with both Dominic Toretto’s crew and special agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) to make that happen.   The stunning success of that film, and its sequel, have opened many doors in Hollywood for Pataky.

It is very noticeable in “Fast Five” that Elsa sports a few pieces of sexy, feminine body art.  Two of her tattoos are visible in the film, and she has at least one more that is visible in publicity photos.

The first of Elsa’s tattoos is crescent moon on her right hip.

On Elsa’s right upper arm, there appears a small symbol of what could be a letter from an ancient alphabet, or some other type of esoteric design.

Finally, she has a scripted phrase running along the inside of her left foot (I cannot make out what it says).

You can find out more about Elsa on her official website:

At this time, Elsa does not appear to have a Twitter account.

Celebrity Tattoo of the Day: Lyndsy Fonseca

The young, and restless, Lyndsy Fonseca, has been acting just about her entire life in a vast array of roles.  To look at the enternally youthful-looking Fonseca, you would probably guess that she would only be performing in soap operas and romantic comedies.  You would be wrong.

While Lyndsy did get her start on the daytime soap “The Young and the Restless” (where New 2 Tats darling, Haley King, is currently starring) as the young Colleen Carlton (daughter of Victor Newman rival, Brad Carlton [yes, I know my soaps.  I have my mom to thank for that]), she has developed quite a diverse acting portfolio

Following her departure from daytime TV, Lyndsy snagged recurring roles in the hit shows “How I Met Your Mother”, and “Big Love” (where she played one of Sarah Henrickson’s snooty friends).

After that, Lyndsy landed a role on the ABC mega-hit “Desparate Housewives”, playing the daughter of Dana Delany’s Katherine Mayfair.  She also made a splash in 2010 cult film “Kick Ass” (where she will be reprising her role in the 2013 sequel), before landing her highest profile role to date of Russian-born spy, Alexandra Udinov, in the CW show “Nikita” (which is a re-imagining of the film and tv show “La Femme Nikita”)

Like her “Nikita” co-star, Maggie Q (who may be featured at some point), Lyndsy does like tattoos.  I was able to find four pieces of body art that she displays.  She has an inverted pyramid design on inside of her right ankle (these pictures show it up close and from a distance)

Another one of her tattoos is this incredibly cute crescent moon/star design behind her right ear:

Another one that gets seen frequently is the word “Fe” is a stylized script on her left wrist.  It means ‘faith’ in Portugese, which makes sense since Lyndsy is of Portugese descent.

Her final, regularly visible, tattoo (though she has hinted at others), is her sister’s name written in Hebrew on her upper right forearm.

Lyndsy’s body art is very cute, meaningful, and feminine.  All great qualities for female tattoos :-).
